Baby Marohn’s Holiday Gift Guide: Sally Hansen Salon Effects

If you are looking for a last minute gift for a teen or woman in your life, you might want to look at the Sally Hansen Salon Effects Real Nail Polish Strips.

Salon Effects are stickers made out of real nail polish for your nails.  They give your nails that salon quality that everyone loves, plus you don’t have the fumes from salons or even regular nail polish.

For the review, I choose a pink giraffe sort of style. Notice it says at the bottom of the box that these nail strips contain no DBP, Toluene, or Formaldehyde.

Here are the rest of the ingreadients though:

This is some basic directions for you:

When you open up the box you will find: 2 packs of nail strips (8 in each pack), a nail file/buffer, cuticle stick, and detailed instructions.

To start out, you want to make sure your nails are clean and dry.  If you have any nail polished on, you will need to remove it before putting on the nail strips.

Once you have made sure your nails are clean and dry, you can then open up one of the nail strips packets.  Once they are open, you will need to used them within a few hours, because they will harden up.

Take out the strip that best fits the nail you want to start with. I chose to start with my thumb, so I got the largest strip.

Next, I pilled off the clear plastic front and the paper back.

Once you pull everything off, you are ready to put it on your nail.  It’s easiest to hold the strip in the middle since you will have more control.

You can use the cuticle stick and the white part of the nail file to smooth out the strip. Then you will use the nail file to file off any excess nail strip there is.

Then you are finished with that nail, and it will be time to move one to the next one.
If you come to a nail where your nail strip is larger than your nail, it’s ok, it will still work.  The nail strips can be cut by pressing down along your cuticle with the cuticle stick.
Here is my finished left hand.

I personally think they turned out really well, and I’ve had them on for a week, and they still look great!

If you would like to get some of Sally Hansen’s Salon Effects of your own, I have seen them on Amazon, but I am sure you could find them at Wal-Mart or Target.  I’ve just not been there to look.

I love the Sally Hansen Salon Effects, and I am so excited to try out some more of their 32 prints!

PicLight For Mac OSX 10.7 Review

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.
If you are looking for a way to add a little flare to your holiday photos, you should really look at PicLight.

PicLight allows you to do professional style lighting and editing for only $4.99 in the Apple App store.

PicLight is also really easy to use.  First, of course, you open the app.  This is what the app looks like when first opened.

Then you need to find your photo and load it into PicLight. I choose a photo of Goose at a Christmas party.

Now, if I needed to I could could do some basic editing on the photo now, but since it already cropped, and in the right orientation, I really don’t have to do any thing there.

Now I can play around with with the “montage” effects…

This is what it looks like when the blending mode is on screen, but I can change it to other blending modes.

See this is another montage, but I’ve changed the blending mode to overlay.

There are other effects that you can do other than montage too.  You have light, glow, and texture.  Here are some photos of that.

If you are loving an effect, but aren’t loving the placement, you can always use the flip buttons. The buttons are highlighted in red below.
One thing I like is the preset photo effects that come along with PicLight.  There are so many great presets, and I always find one that I love.
When you are done, you have several different saving and sharing options.  You can save your image in any of these file types: JPG, TIFF, BMP, PNG, GIF. Or you have sharing options that you can do as well.  You can send directly to iPhoto, Email, Flicker, or Facebook, so you can share your wonderful creations with the world.
If you are interested in getting your own PicLight app, you can get in the Apple app store here
You can also learn more about what other apps PearlMountain has to offer in the links below.

Baby Marohn’s Holiday Gift Guide: ZoloWear Ring Sling Review and Giveaway

If you are looking for a great holiday gift for a mom with a baby, you might want to look at some baby carries, wraps, or ring slings.

One of my new favorite ring slings is the ZoloWear.  I recently got to try one of their cotton ring slings out , and it was awesome.  It is made from 97% cotton sateen and 3% stretch  so that there is a little give in it.

One great feature of the ZoloWear ring sling is the great zipper pocket that is on the tail.  That way if you need to have your baby’s paci, toy, or you need to carry some money without a big bag, you have a place to put everything.

ZoloWare even went a step further than some ring slings I’ve seen, and included a nice instructional video in the package.  So, if you are like me, and a visual learner, you will understand better how to work your new ring sling.

Their cotton slings come in six very stylish prints.

There is pretty much a style for anyone.  I choose the Chai pattern  and I LOVE IT.  It matches just about everything I wear!
Near the rings, the Zolowear ring sling has beautiful pleating.
ZoloWear ring slings are best for babies starting at birth and can be used all the way up to about 35lbs.  Goose weighs about 33 lbs, and still fits great.

Here is my sister wearing a baby doll in the ring sling.  (Goose was being uncooperative and I didn’t want to share photos of her being held in the ring sling incorrectly).

(Sorry about the flash too, I always forget with my sister’s camera on where to put my fingers)

If you are interested in purchasing one of these great ring slings for a gift or one for yourself, they start at $79.00 and go up to $89.00 (+ shipping of course).

The great people over at ZoloWear are also letting me give one away to one very lucky reader.  The giveaway will run now until 12/24.

Baby Marohn’s Holiday Gift Guide: Spark of Amber: Baltic Amber Necklace Review

If you are still looking for a holiday gift, you might want to head over to Spark of Amber.  Spark of Amber makes beautiful Baltic amber necklaces that are not only eye catching, but could have some health benefits too.

In case you don’t know what Baltic amber is, I can tell you a little about it.  Amber is a fossilized resin (I hate to say this, but think Jurassic Park HAHA).  To make it Baltic amber, it must be found in the Baltic region. To read more about Baltic amber you can check out the Wiki page and Spark of Amber’s page.
One thing I love about Spark of Amber is that they make jewelry for ALL ages. So it doesn’t matter if you are a man, woman, or child, Spark of Amber probably has something that will fit your style.
I recently got to try out their green Baltic amber necklace called Meadow.  Oh, my goodness, it is absolute beautiful.
As you can see, the necklace isn’t actually green, is more of a warm yellowish color with flecks of very dark green in it.
**I am so sorry about the quality of my photos. Not really sure what is going on with my camera**
As you can probably tell, I LOVE Spark of Amber.  This is another one of these products where I don’t really think you can go wrong with.

If you are interested in getting your own Spark of Amber necklace or bracelet, you can go to their website:

I would like to thank Spark of Amber for sending me this beautiful necklace to review.

Baby Marohn’s Holiday Gift Guide: Gildan Undies Review and Giveaway

One thing that you never want to see from your Granny (sorry grannies out there) for a gift is undies.  But the gift of new undies coming from your hubby or wife or mom or dad, it’s not so bad (along with something else of corse haha). That’s why when I was asked to review Gildan undies, I thought I would include them in the Holiday Gift Guide.

If you are in the market for undies, you might want to take a look at  Gildan.  They make styles for women, men, and boys.

For men and boys they make everything from tighty whities to boxers. I decided to review some of their boxer briefs for men.

Gildan’s boxer briefs and all of their undies are made from soft 100% cotton for extra comfort.  In the legs there is spandex to make sure that they are comfortable.  The waist band is wide to make the undies non-binding.  Hubby said that the undies were really comfortable. And sorry, he didn’t want to model them for us.  HAHA
For women they have the low rise brief, bikini brief, high cut brief, and the hipsters.  I normally wear the high cut (sorry if TMI) briefs, so I decided to review those.
The undies I received are very comfortable, but there are few things I wish I could change about them. 1) Either my old undies that I’ve been wearing since Goose was born are all stretched out since they fit fine, or the sizes of these undies run small.  2) I wish the waist band was thicker.  I mean they are cute the way they are, but I personally find the thicker waist band more comfortable.
Another thing to keep in mind is this…
The pack of undies I received there were six pairs of panties in it, however there were three different sizes.  They all matched up in width, but two pairs were shorter than all of the other ones.  Not really sure what was going on there.  But, honestly, if I had not been doing this review, I probably wouldn’t have noticed it.
My over all opinion of these, is I really do like them.  I just know to maybe loose a few pounds or get a larger size next time.
If you are interested in getting some of these undies of your own, you can purchase them on Gildan’s website.  Price wise, they will run you between $10.49 and $11.49 per pack + shipping.
Also, the good people over at Gildan have agreed to let me do a giveaway.

Noxicare Natural Pain Relief Cream Review & Giveaway

If you are looking for an all natural topical pain reliever, you might want to look into Noxicare Natural Pain Relief.

This is the best all natural topical pain relief I’ve found for my occasional knee pain.  The last time my knee started acting up, I put a little of the Noxicare cream on it at night, and right away I felt a cooling sensation without all of that terrible smell other creams “offer”.  By the morning the pain was almost gone.  By the next day, the pain was gone all together!

What makes Noxicare different is it’s use of all herbs and ingredients.  For example, the Noxicare Natural Pain Relief cream, has 7 active ingredients: Ginger, Willow Bark, Rosemary, Holy Basil, Boswellia, Turmic, and Alpha Lipoic Acids.

Now all of that being said, this cream is not made to treat any conditions, only help with symptoms.

If you would like to try Noxicare for yourself, it can be purchased on their website  You may also try and win some.  Noxicare is letting me give two very lucky people a tube to try as well.  You may enter anytime until 12/28/2013

Baby Marohn’s Holiday Gift Guide: Tickle Me Plant Review & Giveaway

For the gift guide I wanted to bring you something a little different.  Something that would be fun for someone who has a green thumb and might be hard to buy for.  So, when I saw the Tickle Me Plant, I thought it would be a great addition to the guide.
What is a Tickle Me Plant?

The Mimosa pudica, the Tickle Me Plant, creeping annual or perennial herb.  They are mostly grown for their curiosity value.  When the leaves of the plant are stimulated, they fold up and droop.

The Tickle Me Plant is really easy to grow.  Before you plant your seeds, with adult supervision you will want to place them in a cup of very hot water (just started boiling).  Let to seeds soak for 24-48 hours. Plant 3+ seeds no deeper than 1/8 inch below the soil in a small pot or cup.  Once planted, you will want to place your seeds in an area that is partially to mostly sunny.  Try to keep your planted seeds in a room that is going to be 70º or above day or night for quicker sprouting time.

A great idea would be get these for a homeschooling group so that they can do experiments with them.  A few suggested ideas are “Will misting your plants with water make them grown taller?”, “Use a toothpick to try to find out which part of the Tickle Me Plant is most sensitive to touch”.  The plant would make a great learning opportunity for children.

If you would like to buy your own seeds, they can be purchased on and a few other places. If you are in the USA or Canada, the cost of 5 seed packs is going to run you about $5.50 + shipping.  If you would like a kit with the pots, seeds, mini greenhouse, and peat pellets, those start at $12.99 + shipping and go up from there.

The good people over at Tickle Me Plant, are also letting me give 5 people a Tickle Me Plant seed packet.  The contest will be a little different from the others I have going on right now.  There will be a trivia question posted on Facebook and Twitter.  If you answer the question correctly, your name will will be numbered.  On 12/8/13 at 11:59, I will pick 5 winners to get their very own Tickle Me Plant seed packet.  So, be sure to watch for the trivia question soon on the Baby Marohn Facebook and Twitter pages.

Baby Marohn’s Holiday Gift Guide: 100% Pure Cosmetics Review & Giveaway

If you are like me, I worry about chemicals and stuff that goes into everyday products that we use and that we use on our children.  This really started to worry me, when I signed Goose up for her Holiday dance recital.  I knew then that they require that the girls wear some eye shadow, blush, and lipstick.  So, here I go on another one of my “quests” to find something better for our daughter.  That is when I found 100% Pure Cosmetics.

One thing I learned by looking at 100% Pure‘s website is “as much as 60% of what we put on our skin is absorbed into the blood stream.”  Wow 60% is actually a lot.
Now, did you know that a lot of cosmetics contains chemicals and ingredients that can actually CAUSE cancer?  You can learn more about that on Campaign for Safe Cosmetics. With 100% Pure, you don’t have to worry about any any of that. All of their products are…well… 100% pure.  “That means there are no synthetic chemicals, chemical preservatives, artificial fragrances, artificial colors, harsh detergents or any other unhealthy toxins”.
Now that you know some of the goodies that makes up 100% Pure, let me tell you what they have.
Unfortunately, my camera would not do the justice these blushes deserved so I had to use stock photos from 100% Pure.
My favorite have to be the pot rouge blushes.  I have the Baby Pink and Ballerina, and they are beautiful.  100% Pure has made these pot rouge blushes 100% natural, 100% vegan, and 100% gluten free!  Awesome right.  The color comes from fruit pigments, and is very very vibrant and beautiful on the skin.  The Ballerina color is shimmery and also makes a great eye shadow (since I am all about some multi-purposing).
Another one my favorites is the fruit pigmented lip gloss.  This lip gloss is once again all natural and vegan friendly.  That way you don’t have to worry about accidentally ingesting something harmful. The fruit pigments give you a subtle tint, with a great gloss.
If you (or the person you a buying for) are someone who likes a little more lip tint than what the gloss has to offer, you should check out the lip butter.  I got to try the peach and the strawberry, and let me tell you, this lip butter not only gives you a great color, but leaves your lips felling super soft.  I just loved it.  If you are once again worried about the ingredients, let me put your mind at ease.  It too is all natural, gluten free, and vegan.  It does contain avocado oil, shay butter, and coco butter for ultra-moisturizing.
Here is a photo of the back of the lip butter, so you can read the ingredients for yourself.
I am in love with these products, and I know that I would love to get some as a holiday gift.
If you are interested in buying some 100% Pure products, you can do so on their website.  It’s not cheap, but then again sometimes you have to pay for quality. Also, if it’s a product that I am going to use anyway, and it is safe for Goose to use too, I feel the price is justified.
