Over the past two weeks, we have had 5 winter storms. Yes, I said five! Everytime the snow starts to melt a little, a freeze comes and it turns into another layer or ice! In fact, as I write this post, we are supposed to be getting like another 3-5″ of snow. That may not sound like a lot to some of you who get feet and feet of snow, but for the south, that is a lot of snow since we are not used to it.
Goose is starting to get a little cabin fever. Dance has been cancelled, we haven’t been able to see family members like we normally do on the weekends, and she hasn’t been able to see any of her friends. So, we had to come up with something to do.
This year is the first year that I felt comfortable with her riding on a sled, and we have a perfect place for her to ride the sled this year. So she took a few ride down the yard on the sled, but soon got tired on it since she (as she says) “couldn’t steer that thing”.
Michael and Nora built a really cute snowman, and I decided to up the cuteness, and put some really great glow sticks that I got from Amazon for the the eyes and mouth. It was so funny, the people driving down the road got so confused when they came upon it. We made it so that it wouldn’t be too much of a distraction, but it was noticeable once night fell.
Another thing we tried was coloring and measuring the snow. Goose loved that, and I even got a quick fun lesson in on how the color dilutes when you add more snow. I think she was just having fun coloring snow and slicing through it with the ruler.
We also tried to make snow bricks and a snow castle, but I think our snow was just too dry this time, and the bricks and the castle kept falling apart. It was fun to try though.
When we came in from playing in the snow, Goose was cold and wet, so she went straight into the bath. I surprised her by putting a handful of the same glow sticks we used for the snowman in there with her, and turned out the light. She had so much fun, and she stayed in the bath until the water went cold!
The past few days, she has had some fun but we are looking forward to being able to drive around town again and seeing all of her dance friends. I love the snow, but I think spring would be welcome too at this point.
If you are wondering where I got all of those glow sticks, well like I said, I got them on Amazon. The company that sells them sent them to me to review, but honestly, they were a great price (about 13¢ a stick), and probably would have bought them anyway. The glow sticks are non-toxic and CPSIA compliant. They come in a pack of 100 8″ long sticks, and have the connectors so that you can make bracelets, necklaces, glasses, or whatever your imagination can come up with. They are a one time use type thing, so I do feel wasteful using them a lot since they can’t be recycled. So I limit the amount that Gosse uses (other than the bath I guess) so we can cut back on that waste, sort of a compromise.
I can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings for the snow, and if we can come up with some more fun activities for it.
